How To Launch Your Podcast The Right Way
Have a plan before you launch for a successful podcast. The catch? Not comparing yourself to your podcast idols! It's okay to record, launch, & grow on your terms.
Podcast marketing is almost apples to apples to business marketing. What? Just because you’re being creative doesn’t mean your podcast should be treated as a business?
Puuuuuuhhhhhhhleeeeeeaaassseee.
Having a launch strategy isn’t just for those starting out. Many podcast creators have multiple podcasts and even many find themselves re-launching their podcast. Either way, having a launch strategy is so important. As well, many creators believe in always improving iteratively.
What do podcast creators rely on most to succeed?
Listeners! Downloads! Fans. Human beings.
Climbing a mountain can be done. Having the right tools makes this task so much easier.
Walking up Mount Everest with old running shoes with no tread? Maybe you’ve forgotten your mountain climbing gear and rope for stability and safety? Do you go ahead and “try” to climb up this gargantuous mountain anyway?
I mean, you can. But, it’s going to be a lot harder than if you had the right tools in the first place.
That’s why I’ve created a free pre-launch podcast checklist for you attached at the end of this article. Kindly take in my thoughts about proper launch practices first and if you learned something kindly share this article with your network too.
CoraLynn, co-Founder of Scaling By Design, built mad skills creating successful businesses and is teaching others how to become successful business owners too.
She shared with me how A/B testing can shed some light on how well your strategy is connecting with your podcast audience. As you go through your podcast launch plan, make room for trying new things, comparing subtle differences, and seeing what happens.
Post on your socials at a different time.
Place a different angle on your content.
Tell a story that is indirectly related; yet, still super impactful.
Alter your facilal expression on a podcast thumbnail or cover art.
What better time to understand how your audience responds then before you start releasing podcast episodes?
When you’re testing remember not to compare yourself to someone you look up to (whether it’s Gary V, Joe Rogan, or even Bobby Lee). Why? Because you’re on a totally different path then they are. You have such a different story! I assume that you also have a different reason for creating your podcast.
Checking boxes and finding your benchmarks will only help you to become envious of “podcast superstars” whom you may idolize.
Podcast creation is an adventure. That doesn’t mean that you should bite your nails, pull out your hair, scream, and stop having fun.
Make your podcast the celebrity. Idolize it, roll out the red carpet, and treat your launch like a gala, award show, or something super swanky.
How do I relate Tinder and poppin' wheelies on Motorcycles to Podcast Launch Strategy? Sometimes A/B tests in the dating scene actually works well. Who knew! We got a little cheesy, but it was super fun. Have a listen to my conversation with CoraLynn chatting about launching your podcast the right way.

In the full podcast episode, you’ll learn how you probably shouldn’t launch podcast (that is, if you want to grow and make some money from this venture), why Taylor Swift is such a marketing legend, and trying to understand why Canadian sports teams (who are generally in last place at the end of the season) always sell out their venues. The over-simplified version (tl;dr):

Educated potentional listeners on value.
Tell stories.
Have fun!
